(New Jersey - WABC, June 18, 2007) - His name is Benson and he's an abused dog. Benson is so docile and sweet he was used as bait to train other dogs to fight.
He was found on the highway covered with bite wounds. Now there's a reward to find his abuser.
Eyewitness News reporter Lucy Yang has the story.
Two-year-old Benson is a playful, loving dog. But life hasn't always been kind to this part Greyhound, part Lab mix. The animal control officer in Denville, New Jersey believes that for most of Benson's life, he has been tortured and forced to suffer the attacks of other dogs being groomed for fighting.
They have counted at least 50 bite marks on his body -- some still raw and infected. He was discovered last Thursday dumped on Route 10.
"He was scared to death, violently shaking, his tail was between his legs," said Denville Animal Control Officer Meredith Petrillo.
After only a few days of TLC, Benson has already learned some commands. And now there's no hiding his affection and gentle spirit.
The Humane Society is now offering a $2500 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction to the person who tortured Benson.
Meanwhile, he will soon be available for adoption.

Sickening
I really, really don't understand how people can be cruel to an animal. I hope the people responsible for this are caught (the link has video of the pup):
