TomorrowThursday (like I said, busy week!) the House votes on The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Check out the endorsement sheet. It includes plenty of law enforcement agencies.
Contrary to the spin from the fundamentalists, the law does not contain any provisions for prosecuting speech. It targets violent crimes, not religion. Reasonable clergy from around the country support its passage.
Wanting protection from things like this, this, this, this, this, or this isn't asking for special rights; federal protection against hate crimes targeting race, religion, or national origin has existed for years. Protection for LGBT people should be a given.
It doesn't take much to tell your legislators you support them for supporting this legislation. A phone call is quick and easy to make and web forms are easy to fill out. You can find your legislators here.
