Moral People

How many Bush Republicans leaving the public sphere in shame does it take before they loose their Moral Majority crown (and by leaving the public sphere I mean retreating to posh consulting positions with shadowy lobbying firms)?

When Clinton lied about receiving fellatio, the only thing heard for months on the news, ad nauseum, was "what will we tell the children?" Years later, we find out that the leader of the impeachment and framer of the neo-con movement, Newt Gingrich, was having an extra-marital affair.

The Republicans involved with Jack Abramoff are nearly impossible to keep track of (see Coughlin, Renzi, Doolittle, Bob Ney, and others).

One of the latest Bushies to go down is Randall Tobias, head of the administration's foreign aid programs:

WASHINGTON - Randall Tobias, head of the Bush administration's foreign aid programs, abruptly resigned Friday after his name surfaced in an investigation into a high-priced call-girl ring, said two people in a position to know the circumstances of his departure.
Among other things, Tobias was a strong supporter of abstinence only programs (which aren't so effective, BTW):
Tobias was a strong proponent of the Bush administration’s abstinence-only policies. Before touring African countries for an AIDS program 2004, he said, “The message to young people in the schools is not either ‘Be abstinent or here are condoms, take your pick.’ It is a message of ‘Be abstinent.’ Delaying sexual activity is a means of eliminating the risk of infection.”
It's time to turn the question back to these people. What will we tell the children when they ask, "Weren't these the Christian ones? Why did they lie and cheat so much?"
