Oklahoma
Wow! Tim passed this onto me earlier. I wonder if gay people will be going to Oklahoma to get a divorce.
It's truly wild. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the Oklahoma courts. From the link:
Cait O'Darling, Ph.D., and Stephanie Ann Griffith (Wright), D.O., were married in a Civil Union on December 12, 2000 in Vermont. They honeymooned in Vermont and New York City, NY. Cait and Stephanie then married in Toronto, Canada on December 16, 2002 while Stephanie was attending the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They enjoyed another honeymoon in Niagara Falls, Canada.
In November 2004, the couple separated. Dr. O'Darling retained attorney John Flippo of Frazier, Frazier and Hickman.
Dr. Cait O'Darling had her petition for divorce heard on Monday, November 13, 2006. According to Cait, "I was hoping I would get a divorce, annulment or, more than likely, we would have to appeal."
When I first met Cait I thought she was an attractive boyish looking man, and I was almost sure she was a man when she spoke in her deep baritone voice. Therefore, I'm not surprised the judge was confused about her gender when he asked Cait to clarify who "Stephanie" was in the proceedings. Cait responded, "I'm married to Stephanie," and that's all it took. "Five... ten minutes later, it was over. I want the cover on Rolling Stone," Dr. O'Darling added jokingly. The judge approved of the divorce here in Oklahoma after admonishing her she could not get remarried for another six months.
The Tulsa World published the GRANTED divorce on November 15, 2006.
