Spitz Fire

Good for our likely next governor Elliot Spitzer. He took a strong stand in favor of gay marriage in his debate against Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi last Tuesday:

Attorney General Elliot Spitzer said he would legalize gay marriage is[sic] he became governor.
"I think same sex marriage should be legal. I will propose a bill to permit that to be the case in the state of New York," he said.
"I do not agree with Eliot Spitzer and I do not support gay marriage," said Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, adding it was against his Roman Catholic religion and his principals.

Suozzi's not exactly pro-choice either:

A moderate Democrat and a Roman Catholic, in 2005, he advocated curtailing abortions by speaking out in favor of alternate options for pregnant women considering abortion, including adoption and homes for single mothers. Many liberals accused Suozzi of paying lip service to the conservative and moderate pro-life voters in an attempt to neutralize any major Republican opposition.

Maybe NY will come out of the middle ages once we get a republican governor out of the office (hey I can dream).
